Philosophy

The philosophy that guides my work with clients is individualized and person centered treatment. I perceive my job as walking together with a client through a journey of exploration to uncover the truths and strengths from within an individual to guide their healing process.
As a trained therapist in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model, my work with clients also includes teaching interpersonal skills to improve relationships, individual accountability, and personal empowerment to improve quality of life.

Education and Professional Background

Shawnda’s undergraduate studies were completed at Weber State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Nutrition. She obtained a Master of Science in Counseling/Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix.
As a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC), Shawnda has worked in settings with individuals of adult age ranges. Prior to her current work for Davis Behavioral Health Substance Abuse Adult Services, she has provided addiction, mental health, and relationship therapy in a range of settings including Specialized Opioid Medication Assisted Treatment facilities and private behavioral and addiction health settings.

Personal Interests

I enjoy a range of activities including learning, reading, sports, traveling, and spending time with my family. Originally from Utah, I especially enjoy being active in the “great outdoors” - camping, hiking, fishing, and exploring the beauties and peace of nature.
