Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Programs for Adults 18 or Older

Stress is a normal part of everyday life. The current amount of physical, mental and social stress many are experiencing in U.S. society, however, is not normal. We practice mindfulness so that we can learn to relate to our stress in a new, healthier way. The practice of mindfulness is a radical shift to embracing and accepting who we are – completely, non-judgmentally, with love and compassion.

Develop and strengthen inner resources for coping, growing, and healing.

Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating awareness of what is happening in the present moment in a way that is compassionate, nonreactive, and nonjudgmental.  This program can help individuals who are experiencing:

  • Stress: personal, work, school, family, illness, grief, financial, etc.
  • Psychological/emotional distress including anxiety, depression or panic
  • Medical conditions such as chronic pain or fatigue, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, heart disease, asthma, sleep disturbances, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.
  • A feeling of being “out of control” or “out of balance”

We are delighted for your interest in learning mindfulness.  This course is a rich learning experience and requires a commitment of time and energy, with great opportunities for personal learning and growth.  As we have a limited number of spaces available in the course, we wanted to provide you with some further information about this course to help you ensure that it is a good fit for you at this time.

Time Commitment

  • The orientation is a required part of the course.
  • The course will meet for 2.5 hours each week
  • The all-day retreat will be held from 9:00am-4:00pm on the Saturday between the 6th and 7th week.
  • Attendance at all sessions of the course is expected, as the course content and experiential practice builds upon one another as the course unfolds.  If you know that you will be unable to participate in the all-day retreat, or know you will need to miss a weekly session of the class, we would ask that you take a future round of the class.
  • If the time commitment this course requires is more than you are able to give at this time, please consider our shorter Mindfulness for Adults course, which is 6-weeks long and meets for 1 hour each week.

Home Practice

  • 45 minutes – 1 hour of daily home practice is a required part of this class.  Please consider if you are able to make this commitment.
